Acrylic on canvas, 8 x 10 inches.  The inspiration for this painting is based on photos made on one of our trips to Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Taken along one of blue highways of New Mexico, this photo shows an example of the geology of the area. Mesa is the Spanish/Portuguese word for table, and a geological mesa is elevated hill or mountain with a flat top  You can see two nice examples in the painting.
The cap rocks (rocks–sandstone, quartzite, basalt, chert, limestone– that more resistant to weathering) are very evident in this scene. Â The less resistant rocks are usually shale. Â Look also for the people fishing in the lake.
