Acrylic on Canvas, 9 inches by 12 inches. Â This is the first of several paintings that I did in an online course of Will Kemp’s, Basic Acrylics course. Â It’s a seven lesson course that involves working along with Will through a series of paintings that are the basis for acrylic painting.
In the 3rd lesson, Classical Painting Techniques, we used a very simple palette of ultramarine blue, Titanium white, burnt umber, permanent alizarin crimson, and cadmium yellow light. Â After painting a ground of yellow ochre and white, and a touch of water, the painting began by drawing the scene onto the canvas using a .5mm pencil. Â Using burnt umber darks were added to the painting, followed by lights. This was followed by putting on blues, and greens, followed by glazing using a watered alizarin crimson here and there on the painting. Â More details followed this stage. Â Here are some of the images showing the progress of the painting.
