Acrylic on Canvas, 9 x 12 inches.

This has been a horrendous week and many weeks to come for Houston, TX.  The inspiration for this painting was a photo I saw on a news website.  Thousands of families have had to flee their homes, and seek shelter.  Never before in American history has a storm of this magnitude and impact hit the U.S.  I don’t know this family, and of course I do hope that they found shelter.  Many lives have been lost as of Aug 30, and the number surely will rise.

This is the photo.

I made a drawing on the canvas on top of a layer of burnt sienna straight out of the tube.  After blocking in the back ground and foreground, I then painted the family, and then focused on the vegetation and highlights.
