Acrylic on canvas, 18 by 24 inches. The painting shows the front of the Palace of Governors, which is the oldest public building in the US. In the shaded portal of the building is the location of the Native American Vendors Program which has been in operation for more than 60 years. A daily lottery determines the selection of artisans from various pueblos in New Mexico. I took several photos of the plaza and Palace of the Governors to create this composition.
The slider shows the development of the painting. I painted the top portions of the canvas blue, and the bottom yellow ochre. A drawing followed, and then I layered the buildings and added a people later.
