In the fall of 2014 I took my first online art course on the Craftsy online network (now, Blueprint) of courses taught by professional artists.  My first experience was a drawing course taught by Patricia Watwood, an amazing teacher and artist. Her course encouraged and supported my interest in art.  I made my first trip to Blick Art Materials to purchase art supplies to get started in her course.  Later, I took a second course with her on essential techniques to improve your drawing.

Theo’s Art Space is a website that I designed to document my journey into the world of art.  Theo is a name I use to sign my art work.  The name Theo was inspired by the name of my favorite coffee shop, and Vincent Van Gogh’s brother’s name.   My name is Jack Hassard, and I live in Marietta, Georgia.  I was a teacher in Massachusetts and professor at Georgia State University for nearly 40 years before beginning this artistic quest.  I’ve also been involved in my wife’s antique business, Anne Charles Antiques for nearly 30 years in which we sell 17th – 19th Century English antiques.

Online Courses

Blueprint. Since my first course in drawing, (2015), I’ve taken more than two dozen courses on the Blueprint platform including more drawing and sketching courses, as well as watercolor and acrylic painting classes.  Although I haven’t painted with oils, that will come down the road.  I also have a keen interest in travel sketching using pen, pencil, ink, and watercolor.  I continue to take courses on Blueprint.

ArtTutor. I’m also taking courses. on ArtTutor, a British website created by artists for aspiring artists.  For a small fee, I have a personal website on ArtTutor which enables me to take any of their painting and drawing courses.  Like Craftsy, all of the courses are taught by professional artists.

However, there is an important distinction I would like to make about Arttutor.  When you post your work on your Arttutor site, you are more likely than not to receive feedback on your site about your work.  The feedback is from other artists who post their work on Arttutor.  The feedback is positive and constructive.

Will Kemp Art School. I’ve also taken online courses at the Will Kemp Art School, and many of the paintings on my site were created in courses with Will Kemp.  His art school is outstanding, and he’s an excellent teacher and artist.

Richard Robinson’s Painting Club. Richard Robinson is a New Zealand artist and teacher.  His website is a place to do En plein air painting from your own studio.  His online classes are set in some magnificent location to teach painting.  I’ve taken several courses on his My Painting Club.  I’ve painted Snow Mountains and Mountain Stream, which you can link to here.

Some of the art you see on Theo’s website, at least for now, are studies completed in these online art courses.

I’ve been a traveler and photographer all my life, and I’m drawn to landscapes, seascapes, and urban settings as sources of interest and inspiration for photography, painting and drawing studies.  You’ll see links to some of these locations on the main sidebar.

I’m also interested in doing art that expresses emotional content, such as the impact of natural disasters on families, and social/political issues such as the way immigrants are being de-humanized, especially on the U.S. Southern Border.

New Website

I’ve just recently rebuilt the Theo Art Space using the Extra Theme that includes the Divi Builder from Elegant Themes.
